UAE Corporate Bank Account: The Document Checklist Banks Ask For

Opening a UAE corporate bank account starts with a document pack. Every bank publishes its own list and can ask for more, so this article works from one bank's published requirements and tells you where each item comes from after your company is formed. It is a working checklist, not a universal rule.

The list one UAE bank publishes

Mashreq's NEO BIZ business account page states the documents it needs: "Trade License, Memorandum of Association, Board Resolution (if applicable), Company Address proof, Identity Documents of Partners and Bank statements (if applicable)." That gives six items.

    1. Trade licence, issued by your free zone when the company is formed.
    2. Memorandum of Association, the constitutional document produced during formation.
    3. Board resolution, marked by the bank as applicable only in some cases.
    4. Company address proof, which for a flexi desk company is the registered address supplied by the free zone.
    5. Identity documents of the partners, meaning the shareholders.
    6. Bank statements, again marked as applicable only in some cases.

    Where each document comes from

Meydan Free Zone describes the formation output this way: you receive "your trade license, MOA, and establishment card digitally". The first two items on the list therefore arrive together at the end of formation. Keep the PDFs in one folder with the names of the shareholders spelt exactly as they appear on each passport, so that every document tells the same story.

For address proof, a flexi desk package normally includes a registered address. Meydan's flexi desk package, for example, lists "A registered Dubai address, in Nad Al Sheba, for your license and mail." We have not verified how each bank treats a flexi desk address as proof, so ask the bank before you apply rather than after.

For identity documents the page says only "Identity Documents of Partners". It does not say whether a passport alone is enough or whether the bank wants an Emirates ID. Residents receive the card at the end of the visa process: Meydan says "Once approved, your Emirates ID will be issued, and your visa will be stamped on your passport." If you are applying from abroad before that point, ask what the bank accepts.

The two items marked as applicable

The board resolution and the bank statements both carry the label "if applicable", and the page does not say when they apply. Do not guess. Put the question to the bank in writing: does a single shareholder company need a board resolution, and does a company with no trading history need bank statements. Their written answer is the one you can rely on.

    Timing

Mashreq advertises "Open your NEO BIZ account in 1 day or get AED 1,000". That is the bank's own marketing line for a complete application on its own product, so treat it as the best case rather than a promise about every bank.

The visa side is slower. Meydan states that "processing times generally vary from two to four weeks" for the entrepreneur visa. If your bank wants residence documents, the sequence matters, and our guide to the residence visa and Emirates ID steps covers it in order.

    A short preparation routine

    1. Ask the bank for its current checklist for your company type and your nationality.
    2. Collect the trade licence, Memorandum of Association and registered address document into one folder.
    3. Prepare passport copies for every shareholder and make sure the names match the licence.
    4. Ask in writing whether a board resolution and bank statements apply to your structure.
    5. Submit the full pack in one go and keep a copy of what you sent.

What this article does not cover

We have verified the list above from one bank's published page. We have not verified the lists, minimum balances or timelines of other UAE banks, and we do not state them here. Each bank sets its own requirements and can change them.
